The first China-South and Southeast Asia University Presidents Forum, initiated and organized by Yunnan University, was held in Kunming on 26-27 November 2017. Representatives of 20 universities from South and Southeast Asia and 30 universities in China met in the spring city to discuss the international cooperation and development of higher education in the region, explore the possibility and development path of building a China-South and Southeast Asia higher education community, and jointly create a new situation of collaborative development of regional higher education. Chen Xianfeng, Vice President of Hainan University, was invited to attend the forum.

At the opening ceremony, Zhu Huashan, Deputy Director of the Yunnan Provincial Education Department, and Yang Lin, Secretary of the Party Committee of Yunnan University, delivered speeches. With the theme of "Sharing Education, Innovating Cooperation", keynote speeches were delivered by Lin Wenxun, President of Yunnan University, Lakshman Tisanayake, President of the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, Chouakchai Mistrylu, Vice-President of Mahidol University, Thailand, and Chingthamani Mahapatra, Vice-President of Nehru University, India.

President Lin Wenxun of Yunnan University launched an initiative to establish the China-South and Southeast Asia University Alliance. He hoped that through the establishment of the China-South East Asia University Consortium, China and South East Asia would enhance mutual understanding, build a platform for regional higher education exchange and cooperation, promote cooperation and research in priority areas of regional development, raise the level of cooperation between universities in China and South East Asia, build a regional higher education community, and help China and South and Southeast Asia to develop in a more open, inclusive, inclusive, balanced and win-win direction, and to contribute wisdom and strength to promoting regional economic and social development and building a community of human destiny.

In the group discussion stage, the participants discussed and reached a consensus on the "Initiative for the Establishment of the China-South East Asia University Alliance" and the constitution of the Alliance, and formed the minutes of the meeting, which laid the foundation for the next step to promote the establishment of the Alliance. According to the "China-South Asia Southeast Asia University Alliance" initiative, the Alliance will hold regular presidential forums, promote joint training of talents and international cooperation in scientific research, and create a distinctive brand.

During the forum, Vice President Chen Xianfeng exchanged views with representatives of foreign institutions such as Thailand Agricultural University, Suphanuvong University in Laos, Nehru University in India and North South University in Bangladesh to discuss cooperation matters.

In order to match and serve the national "One Belt, One Road" initiative and promote the "One Belt, One Road" education international initiative, our university has focused on promoting cooperation and exchange with Southeast Asian countries this year and achieved a lot of fruitful results. The cooperation with Malaysia's Southern University College to hold "tourism management master's degree program outside the country", to achieve zero breakthrough in the province's overseas academic education programs; and the Royal Agricultural University of Cambodia to establish "Hainan University Cambodia Chinese Teaching Center", to establish a The university has also established a stable exchange platform for cooperation in the fields of tropical agriculture, tourism and Chinese language teaching; it has also set up a branch of Hainan University in Laos at the Barbosa Institute of Technology, supporting the Barbosa Institute of Technology in building a complete "Bachelor's - Master's -D" degree system.
