(Reporter Zhuang Haiyan) On the morning of October 10, the opening ceremony of the 2019 workshop on environmental protection and environmental assessment in Laos was held in the multi-function hall of Siyuan Hall of Hainan University. The opening ceremony was attended by Wei Zhuo, a commissioner of the China Ministry of Commerce Training Center for Foreign Aid Training Project Management, Wan Ranmin, a researcher of the Foreign Investment and Economic Cooperation Department of the Hainan Provincial Department of Commerce, and Hu Xinwen, Vice President of Hainan University.

Organised by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China and hosted by the University, the 3-week workshop on "Environmental Protection in Tropical Regions" aims to enhance participants' knowledge and understanding of ecological environmental protection and construction in tropical regions, environmental monitoring techniques and methods, and environmental protection industry development models and experiences.

Wan Ranmin said that the conflict between economic development and environmental protection is a prominent issue facing China, and it is a difficult challenge to ensure that rapid economic development is accompanied by green mountains and green water. China is willing to share its research results and technical experience in environmental protection with Laos and other Southeast Asian countries to jointly promote the construction of an environment-friendly society and common prosperity. Through this training, he expects the participants to build bridges of friendship between China and Laos with sincerity, learn and understand more, become ambassadors of friendship and contribute to the building of friendly national relations.

Hu Xinwen introduced the basic situation of our university. He pointed out that our university was selected as one of the national "world first-class disciplines" construction universities in 2017, and has always adhered to the principle of "highlighting characteristics, focusing on construction and comprehensive development", highlighting the "tropical, marine, tourism, special area "It has established the largest and relatively complete undergraduate, master and doctoral training system in the province. In order to further implement the important instruction of General Secretary Xi Jinping that "Hainan University should be supported to create a world-class discipline", the university has further expanded the enrollment of international students and is looking forward to more extensive exchanges and cooperation with neighbouring Laos. He said that Hainan University will do its best to provide a good learning and living environment for all participants of the workshop.
