1.1About Hainan province, PR China
Located at the most southern tip of China, Hainan province, is a tropical island and special economic zone as well as the most popular tourist destination in Asia. Long summer without winter, full sunshine, fresh air, clear water, makes Hainan the heaven on the Earth for tourism and local. The tourism industry in Hainan has grown rapidly and became the leading industry since the province had announced as the special economic zone by the central government 30 years ago. In recent years, Hainan province has seized major development opportunities such as international tourism island construction, tourism supply-side reform, regional tourism construction, 21st century maritime silk road construction and Hainan free trade zone(part) construction to accelerate the internationalization, informatization and high-end development of the tourism industry.
1.2Brief on Hainan University
Hainan University, is a university built together by Hainan's provincial government and Ministry of Education China., under the‘211 Higher education institutions Project’ in China. Till now, there are 10 doctoral programs, 32 master programs, 94 undergraduate programs and 15 professional master’s degrees in total offered by Hainan University. Currently there are full-time students of 38000 in number and the main campus located at the heart of Haikou, the capital of Hainan province. The university covers a total area of 337 hectares, with more than 1.3 million meter square build up area. Surrounded by beautiful lakes and coconut trees, it provides an ideal place for learning.
1.3Synopsis of Tourism College of Hainan University
Tourism College of Hainan University one among the others, the most various in academic courses and good in research projects, Tourism College in China. Currently the college offers four undergraduate programs: Tourism Management, Hotel Management, Exhibition Economic & Management, Humanities Geographic with Urban & Rural Planning; and three postgraduate programs: Tourism Management, Technology Economic & Management, MTA. The first-level discipline of business administration is entitled to confer doctoral degree in tourism management.The college also offers a twinning undergraduate degree program in exhibition economic and management with Dublin Institute of Technology, Ireland. The college is announced and won the rewards as“the Top 10 Training Base for China hotel industry”.
1.4Brief introduction of MTA
Master of Tourism Administration (MTA) is an approved master program by the academic degrees committee of China State Council in 2010, aims to train more high-level experts for tourism industry. MTA, together with the master of business administration (MBA) and master of public administration (MPA) are the three most influential professional master degrees that recognized by Chinese’ industries. MTA program is market-oriented, target on elite training for tourism management, promote equal emphasis on theory and practice, the syllabus is designed to emphasis cutting-edge, practical, innovative, enhance the management capacity, enrich networking, boosting an important platform for business success. Hainan University, Tourism College in specific granted the approval from the academic degrees committee, China State Council to hold master of Tourism Administration master degree program since 2014.
1.5Introduction to Southern University College, Malaysia
South University College, Malaysia was founded in 1990, located in the“Malaysia iskandar” within the special economic zones, Skudai, Johor, Malaysia, is the Malaysia's first private university college. The initial intention for the establishment of this University College is to provide higher lever learning opportunities for secondary school leavers without going overseas. The University College has a campus of scenic environment, colorful in multi-culture. In conjunction with the development of special economic zones at Johor Bahru, Southern University College also steps into the international arena through joint education program with others, including Hainan University.
2. Requirement From Students
2.1Non PR China citizen over 18 years of age;
2.2Qualification and work experience must fulfilled one of the following conditions:(1) has a nationally recognized university degree (undergraduate or equivalent) and have a minimum work experience of 2 years; or (2) has a nationally recognized college or vocational education and work experience of 3 years or more.
3. Course Advantages And Characteristics
3.1Highly industry recognized certification
Upon completion of the course, students will be awarded the“Chinese State Council degree certificate + MTA master’s degree” duel certificates. China has signed mutual recognition degree, bilateral agreement on education with more than 60 counties (regions) over the world and the certification is recognized globally.

3.3Low cost, shorter time
The MTA program of Hainan university focuses in humanized teaching, the length of study of a total of two years, including one-year theoretical study and one-year practical, without quitting jobs, enable students to complete their studies in their spare time. And the tuition fees standard is relatively much lower than other international cooperation programs offered.
3.4Provide internship opportunities in China
Upon completion of the studies, students can obtain a one-year management trainee internship opportunity in multi-national cooperation in China, which offered more choices and relatively high pay.

4. Degree awarded
Upon completion of all content of the program and meet the corresponding requirements, the student can obtain the Hainan university Master of Tourism Management (MTA) graduate Degree certification. Then, with the graduate degree certificate and passed the graduation thesis, the students can obtain the Hainan university Master of Tourism Management (MTA) professional Degree certificate. Failed to pass the exam or not paying tuition fees, will only given completion certificate or associate degree.
5. Fees Standard
Length of study is two years. Upon request, can be extended but to maximum of four years.
5.1Two years tuition fees totaling RMB 42,000 (excluding SST).
5.2Tuition fees can be paid in two installments, but at least 50% of the total fees should be pay on every first semester of each schooling year during registering.
5.3For Internship in China, accommodation and meals should be paid by the practice unit, but roundtrip transportation is on students themselves. During the internship, internship enterprises may pay the internship students a practice fee.
5.4For thesis defense session which is carried out at Hainan University, transportation, meals, accommodation, graduations and other expenses are by the students themselves.
5.5Retaking any courses will be charged with an extra standard fee of RMB 100 per credit hour.
6. Training
6.1The teaching teams are set up with the teaching forces jointly from Tourism College of Hainan University and Southern University College. All courses will be organized during Malaysia school holidays.
6.2Theoretical courses are given mainly with classroom method and supplemented by remote network teaching. To save cost, all courses are arranged at Southern University College or Malaysian Independent Chinese Secondary School.
6.3All courses adopt bilingual (Chinese and English) teaching. Main teaching methods are lectures, case studies, simulation, discussion, research, and etc.
6.4The writing for thesis only started after completion of all stipulated credit hours. The periods for Graduation thesis writing not less than six months, and thesis defense session will be held in Hainan University.
7. Courses And Credits Required
7.1Core courses:
Management Economics, Service Management, Hotel Management Essentials, Advanced Human Resources Management, Hotel Marketing Plan, The Hotel Investment and Financial Management, Strategic Planning and Management, Restaurant Theme Design, Hotel Information System, Organization Behavior.
7.2Credit requirements:
In addition to the graduation thesis, total of 28 points. Among them, compulsory public courses 12 credits, professional courses 8 credits, professional electives 6 credits (including quality development 3 credits and practice module 3 credits), and Special Lecture 2 credits.
8. Registration
Applicants need to prepare the following documents during the entrance examination (original copy needed):
The application form;
Identification of non-China nationality;
Education certificates;
Working experience certificate(s);
6 pieces of 2-inch photos;
Health certificate; and
No criminal record certificate.
The above documents should be submitted and translated into English or Chinese. Only Eligible applicants will be short-listed and called for entrance examination. You will receive the MTA Malaysia notice of entrance examination only after all the process of registration completed.
9. Entrance Examinations & Enrollment
Applicants will take part in the written tests and interviews, the representative appointed by the Hainan University will examine the profession knowledge and language level of the applicants.
Applicants who passed the entrance examination will receive an acceptance letter, start dates is subject to admission, seats for 30 people.
