厦门大学近海海洋环境科学国家重点实验室物理海洋学专业博士(2022),博士后(2022–2024)。2024年11月入职海南大学南海海洋资源利用国家重点实验室。主要使用三维高分辨率的物理–生态数值模型,从事海洋锋面亚中尺度动力过程及其生态响应研究。主持国家自然科学基金青年基金项目(南海海盆亚中尺度不稳定及其对浮游植物时空变化的调控研究),作为项目骨干参与国家自然科学基金区域创新发展联合基金项目(台湾海峡冬季及初春离岸藻华的锋面不稳定机制研究)和面上基金项目(浙闽沿岸流在东山外海分离机制研究),在Limnology and Oceanography和JGR–Oceans等国际期刊发表SCI文章6篇。
Title/position: Associate Research Fellow
Zhonghua Zhao was a Ph.D. and a Post-doctoral Fellow in Physical Oceanography at State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science, Xiamen University. In November 2020, he joined the State Key Laboratory of Marine Resource Utilization in South China Sea, Hainan University. Employing three-dimensional high-resolution physical-biological numerical models, he mainly focuses on frontal submesoscale dynamics and their biological responses. He has led the Youth Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (Submesoscale Instabilities and their Modulation on Phytoplankton Spatiotemporal Variability in the South China Sea Basin), and participated in the Joint Project (Frontal instability induced offshore phytoplankton bloom in winter and early spring Taiwan Strait) and General Project (The mechanism for the China coastal current separation off Dongshan in winter) of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He has published 6 papers in international journals such as Limnology and Oceanography, and JGR–Oceans.

我们使用三维高分辨率的物理–生态数值模型,开展海南岛周边海域至南海深海海盆的亚中尺度动力过程(如不稳定和锋生)及其生态响应模拟研究。具体的研究内容包括但不限于:
1. 海南岛周边海域温、盐、流时空变化的模拟研究,厘清该海域的基本物理过程;
2. 海南岛周边海域河流冲淡水锋面、上升流锋面和潮汐混合锋面亚中尺度动力过程研究,揭示其对近岸海域浮游植物生物量的调控作用;
3. 海南岛周边海域与南海深海海盆的物质输运与交换研究,揭示亚中尺度过程的贡献及该交换过程对浮游植物生物量的影响;
4. 南海深海海盆亚中尺度动力过程研究,揭示其对南海冬季藻华发生和有机碳沉降的调控作用;

Research Interests
We employ a three-dimensional high-resolution physical-biological numerical model to study submesoscale dynamical processes (such as instabilities and frontogenesis) and their biological responses from the coastal regions near Hainan Island to the deep basin of the South China Sea. The specific research topics include but are not limited to:
1. Revealing the spatiotemporal variations of temperature, salinity, and velocity in the coastal regions near Hainan Island to clarify the basic physical processes;
2. Analyzing submesoscale dynamics associated with riverine fronts, upwelling fronts and tidal mixing fronts in the coastal regions near Hainan Island to reveal their influence on phytoplankton biomass in coastal waters;
3. Investigating material transport and exchange between the coastal regions near Hainan Island and the deep basin of the South China Sea to elucidate the contributions of submesoscale dynamics and their impact on phytoplankton biomass;
4. Exploring the spatiotemporal variations of submesoscale processes in the deep basin of the South China Sea to highlight their modulations on winter blooms and organic carbon export.
