Peng Zhao

Title/position: Associate Research Fellow, Master Supervisor (Program: Marine biology, fisheries development)


中国海洋大学生物科学本科,中国科学院海洋研究所海洋生态学硕士、博士。曾在自然资源部国家海洋信息中心工作。主要从事蓝碳科学与政策,海草床和红树林修复技术、极地陆地生态学(企鹅)研究。担任联合国政府间海洋学委员会西太分会蓝碳工作组主席、中国海洋学会海洋标准化分会副主任委员。曾担任联合国亚太经社理事会海洋核算项目顾问,参加中国第36次南极考察队,参加联合国气候行动峰会中国代表团及十余次双多边外事活动。主持国家自然科学基金青年基金项目等纵向、横向科研项目17项,以第一作者或通讯作者发表SCI论文4篇(含中科院SCI一区TOP期刊3篇,中文核心期刊11篇,第一发明人授权美国专利1项和中国发明专利5项,主持国家海洋行业标准1项。2020年7月入职海南大学以来,指导本科生、研究生获得互联网+大赛国家银奖和海南省金奖、挑战杯海南省特等奖和一等奖、海南大学优秀本科论文、海南大学年度人物等,保送多名本科生到浙江大学、武汉大学、西安交通大学。


Peng Zhao holds a bachelor's degree in biological sciences from Ocean University of China, and a master's and a doctoral degree in marine ecology from the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He worked at the National Marine Information Center, Ministry of Natural Resources. He was the team leader of Blue Carbon and Coastal Wetland Innovation (Nurturing). His research interests include blue carbon science and policy, seagrass bed and mangrove restoration technology, and polar terrestrial ecology (penguin).

He served as a consultant for the United Nations Asia-Pacific Economic and Social Commission's ocean accounting project, participated in the 36th Chinese Antarctic Expedition, and represented China at the United Nations Climate Action Summit and more than ten other bilateral and multilateral foreign affairs activities. In the past five years, he has led 20 longitudinal and horizontal research projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation Program for Youth Scholars and Hainan Province's Key Research and Development Program, with a total funding of over 10 million yuan. Has published 5 SCI papers (including three in the top journals of the Chinese Academy of Sciences), 10 Chinese core journals, 1 authorized US patent as the first inventor and 4 Chinese invention patents as the principal investigator. He has led one national marine industry standard since joining Hainan University in July 2020. He has guided an undergraduate student to win the Outstanding Undergraduate Thesis Award at Hainan University, and 3 undergraduate students have been recommended for admission to Zhejiang University, Wuhan University, and Xi'an Jiaotong University. His several undergraduate and graduate students have won provincial gold awards in the "Internet+" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.


 

学术成果

1. 在蓝碳科学和政策方面,曾长期支撑原国家海洋局和自然资源部应对气候变化和蓝碳工作,参加中国联合国气候行动峰会代表团,为“基于自然的解决方案”(NBS)工作组提供技术支撑;担任联合国亚太经社理事会海洋核算项目顾问。开展了全国范围的蓝碳生态系统调查采样,主持完成了《海岸带蓝碳生态系统调查技术规程 海草床》、《海南省海洋生态系统碳汇发展路线图研究》,建立滨海湿地温室气体清单简化编制方法,完成了海南省滨海湿地温室气体清单的核算,参加了国家温室气体清单土地利用、土地利用变化和林业(LULUCF)部分编制的咨询,赴澳大利亚、新西兰、斐济、菲律宾、柬埔寨开展蓝碳双多边合作并赴在多个国际会议上作报告。


2. 在红树林和海草床生态修复方面,开展了废弃虾塘红树林生态修复和可持续利用研究和实践,初步建立了水动力改造、红树林生境修复和经济生物增殖技术体系,该项工作被纳入联合国气候行动峰会《基于自然的解决方案案例汇编》,被纳入生态环境部发布的《中国应对气候变化的政策与行动2019年度报告》,《人民日报》(2020年06月09日 14 版)及其新媒体平台(2020年06月22日)对该项目进行了报道。开展了亚热带海草床规模化修复研究和实践,在广西北海建立了亚热带海草床修复联合实验室。


3. 在极地研究方面,参加中国第36次南极考察队,承担极地动物种群遥感调查研究项目,使用高光谱、热红外、无人机和卫星手段开展了企鹅种群数量和结构研究,使用追踪器连续追踪企鹅超过150天并开展了企鹅迁徙路线和生物钟研究,进行了极地大陆微塑料分布和来源、企鹅粪土温室气体排放等研究。

Academic Achievements

1. In the field of blue carbon science and policy, he has long supported the former State Oceanic Administration and the Ministry of Natural Resources in responding to climate change and blue carbon work. He participated in the Chinese delegation to the United Nations Climate Action Summit and provided technical support to the "Nature-based Solutions" (NBS) working group. He served as a consultant for the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Ocean Accounting Project. He conducted a national survey and sampling of blue carbon ecosystems, and led the projects of the Technical Regulations for Blue Carbon Ecosystem Survey of Coastal Zones - Seagrass Beds and the Research on the Development Roadmap of Marine Ecosystem Carbon Sinks in Hainan Province. He established a simplified method for compiling greenhouse gas inventories for coastal wetlands and completed the accounting of greenhouse gas inventories for coastal wetlands in Hainan Province. He participated in the consultation on the preparation of the national greenhouse gas inventory for the land use, land use change and forestry (LULUCF) sector, and conducted blue carbon bilateral and multilateral cooperation in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, the Philippines, and Cambodia, and presented reports at multiple international conferences.

2. In the field of mangrove and seagrass ecosystem restoration, He has conducted research and practice on the ecological restoration and sustainable utilization of abandoned shrimp ponds. He initially established a technical system for hydrodynamic transformation, mangrove habitat restoration, and economic biological proliferation, which has been included in the Compilation of Nature-based Solutions Case Studies at the United Nations Climate Action Summit and the Policy and Action on Climate Change in China 2019 Annual Report published by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment. The project was reported by People's Daily (June 9, 2020, 14th edition) and its new media platform (June 22, 2020). He has also conducted research and practice on the large-scale restoration of subtropical seagrass beds and established a joint experimental laboratory for the restoration of subtropical seagrass beds in Beihai, Guangxi.

3.In terms of polar research, He participated in the 36th Chinese Antarctic Research Expedition and undertook a remote sensing investigation of polar animal populations. Using hyperspectral, thermal infrared, unmanned aerial vehicles, and satellite methods, he conducted research on penguin population numbers and structure, tracked penguins continuously for over 150 days, and studied penguin migration routes and biological clocks. He also conducted research on the distribution and sources of microplastics on the polar continent, as well as greenhouse gas emissions from penguin feces and soil.
