2021年5月，南海海洋资源利用国家重点实验室与广西合浦儒艮国家级自然保护区管理中心签订合作协议，建立了亚热带海草床修复联合实验室，南海国重室赵鹏副研究员瞄准儒艮在我国区域性灭绝和海草床修复的重点和难点问题，提出“修复海草、儒艮回家”的目标，带领研究生长期在保护区开展海草床保护与海草繁育研究，通过室内控制实验和野外模拟实验开展海草生理生态学和海草床修复生态学研究，建立了“室内-池塘-野外”修复技术体系，为保护区及我国亚热带、热带海草床全面保护和系统性修复奠定基础。该项目得到了世界自然基金会（WWF）与深圳市一个地球自然基金会（OPF）共同发起的蔚蓝星球基金“广西合浦海草床蓝碳生态系统规模化修复技术研究及示范”项目的资助。

In May 2021, the State Key Laboratory of Marine Resources Utilization in South China Sea (MRU) and Hepu Dugong State Nature Reserve Management Center signed a cooperation agreement to establish a joint laboratory for the restoration of subtropical seagrass beds. In response to the reality that dugongs were experiencing regional extinction in China and the key and difficult points in seagrass beds restoration, Peng Zhao, MRU associate research professor, set up the target of “Restore the Seagrass Beds and Save the Habitats of Dugong” and guided the graduates in conducting research on the protection of seagrass beds and seagrass reproduction in the reserve for a long time. Through the indoor controlled experiments and field simulation experiments, Peng Zhao and his research team had carried out researches on physiological ecology of seagrasses and seagrass bed ecology and subsequently established the “Indoors-Pool-Field” restoration technology system, which laid foundation for the comprehensive protection and systematic restoration of seagrass beds in the reserve, subtropical China and tropical China. The project was supported by the “Research and Demonstration Program of Blue Carbon Ecosystem Restoration Technology for Guangxi Hepu Seagrass Beds”, which was jointly sponsored by WWF and OPF.
