Summary of the Interview
1. What do you think is the significance of the development of combustible ice?
-“First, combustible ice is a clean energy source, which is quite important to protect the ocean and the environment. As a type of deep-sea hydrate, combustible ice mainly consists of methane, a chemical gas that is harmful in itself. However, if certain technologies are used to separate the gas and prevent the harmful gas from leaking during the extraction process of combustible ice, the environment can be protected. With wide distribution in the ocean, there are large reserves of combustible ice resources located about 5,000 meters deep near the coast of China. In the coming future, the production of combustible ice will enter a large-scale extraction process, and I believe that China may be the earliest country to achieve this.”
2. What is your biggest problem during the research process?
-“As I have been working abroad for many years and have been at the forefront of deep-sea energy exploration for a long time, I am inevitably constantly exploring the unknown and discovering new things. This is the challenge I encounter. And I feel acquiring new knowledge is important for maintaining a sense of curiosity throughout the exploration process while also maintaining a strong desire for knowledge. To learn, and to enrich oneself with new knowledge, enable us to explore new fields in an ever-changing process.”
3. How did you overcome these difficulties?
-“First and foremost, one must possess a sense of responsibility, particularly in the realm of cutting-edge international technology, so that individuals inevitably face challenges and navigate a fast-paced research environment. Thus, it is crucial to continually apply pressure on oneself while maintaining confidence and proactively exploring the unknown.”
