该实验室于 2003 年 6 月由海南省科学技术厅批准筹建，2005年 4 月 21 日通过省科技厅验收，并正式投入运行。实验室依托海南大学设立，以热带水生生物资源保护、利用与深度开发、人才培养和技术服务为目标。现设有热带水产养殖动物苗种繁育与养殖技术、热带水产养殖动物病害防治、热带水产养殖动物育种与种质改良、热带海洋生物多样性和海洋药物与生物技术等五个研究方向。实验室拥有正立荧光相差微分干涉数码显微镜、倒置相差显微镜、毛细管电泳仪、冻干机、程序降温仪、荧光定量 PCR 仪、多肽合成仪、层析系统、台式大容量高速冷冻离心机、超纯水仪、凝胶成像系统、核酸蛋白分析仪、冰冻切片机、凝胶成像分析系统、PCR 基因扩增仪、便携式水质分析、超低温冰箱、显微操纵器、多倍体检测仪等一批先进仪器设备。在海南省科技厅历次对省重点实验室进行考核评估中，本实验室均评为优秀。

The Hainan Key Laboratory of Aquatic Biotechnology was approved by the Department of Science and Technology of Hainan Province in June 2003, and it passed the acceptance check of the Department of Science and Technology of Hainan Province and was officially put into operation on April 21, 2005. The laboratory relies on Hainan University and regards protection, utilization, in-depth development, personnel training and technical services of tropical aquatic biological resources as the goals. There are five research orientations: animal breeding and cultivation technology of tropical aquaculture, animal disease prevention and control of tropical aquaculture, animal breeding and germplasm improvement of tropical aquaculture, tropical marine biodiversity, and marine medicine and biotechnology. The laboratory has a number of advanced instruments and equipment such as stand fluorescence differential interference digital microscope, inverted phase contrast microscope, capillary electrophoresis instrument, lyophilizer, programmable cooler, fluorescence quantitative PCR, peptide synthesizer, chromatography system, benchtop high-capacity high-speed frozen centrifuge, ultrapure water system, gel imaging system, protein nucleic acid analyzer, cryostat, gel imaging & analysis system, PCR gene amplification instrument, portable water quality tester, ultra-low temperature chiller, micromanipulator, and polyploid detector. In all the assessments and evaluations conducted by Department of Science and Technology of Hainan Province, the laboratory has been rated as excellent.
